What’s a Doula, Why a Doula?

A Doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support to all birthing people and their families before, during and after childbirth. Doulas are enablers who can help you navigate your birthing options, provide comfort measures, and advocate for your preferences.

The WHO (World Health Organisation) highlighted the importance of Doulas as research suggests that their support provides improved health outcomes for a woman and her baby. Doulas bridge gaps for people who may face barriers to care or have specific care needs. While Doulas are not medical professionals the support they provide runs alongside the medical team and they work effectively with midwives to ensure a positive birth experience. Research also suggested that Doulas play a positive supportive role in mental health during pregnancy and the first year postpartum (perinatal stage)

How do I choose the right Doula for me?

The person you gel with the most is the right Doula for you. Connection and communication are absolutely essential on this journey. Chat on the phone, meet in person for a cuppa. How comfortable do you feel?

It's not easy to put into words, it's that instinctual sense that "this is right" the calm and connected feeling, being safe and relaxed in someone's company. Trust your instinct, if it feels right, it is right.

What does Postpartum support look like?

Postpartum care, in a word, flexible. No two families or births are the same and needs evolve as those early days stretch into weeks with your new baby. Perhaps it's breastfeeding support, guidance on newborn care, light housework, cooking a meal, a spell of babysitting whilst you have a nap or a shower, a good old natter to air your thoughts and feelings. However it "looks" your postpartum care from me as your doula will be kind, gentle and reassuring with "Mothering the Mother" being at the heart of everything I do. My aim is to help you feel safe, nurtured and rested as your body recovers from your birthing experience. Supporting and enabling you to feel comfortable, confident relaxed and ready to transition into parenthood.

“There's something about you Bev, something that makes us all feel connected.”
